FAQs

Physical Therapy

You should expect a relaxed and welcoming environment to promote a positive mindset for optimal healing and recovery. It will be a thorough one-on-one session which will include a discussion and detailed physical examination related to your current complaints and goals. You can also expect treatment to begin on the first day so that you can start the recovery process as soon as possible. In addition, you will be instructed in a home exercise program to accelerate healing and give you the confidence to play an active role in your recovery.

After your initial evaluation, the physical therapist will be able to determine the number and type of follow-up appointments that would be beneficial for you and your recovery.

Please bring your prescription (or referral) if you have one, new patient forms (which can be downloaded from the website), appropriate attire and any other relevant information related to your injury. Also, you may bring any equipment that you may use during your sport or training.

It is best if you wear loose comfortable clothing that will allow access to the area that will be evaluated and treated. This will also allow you to participate fully during each treatment session. For example, shorts would be a good choice for leg and low back injuries and tank tops or camisoles for shoulder and neck injuries.

If you are having physical therapy, you will always work with the physical therapist that performed your initial evaluation as VersaKinetic Therapy believes in continuity of care. Most of each session will focus on treatment and techniques that only the physical therapist can perform or you cannot reproduce at home. VersaKinetic Therapy does not believe that you should pay to perform exercises or techniques that can be part of a complete home exercise program. Instead, VersaKinetic Therapy believes that giving you an active role in your recovery is an extremely beneficial component of treatment that will build confidence and ultimately lead to your improvement.

Each physical therapy evaluation is scheduled for an hour and PT treatments can range from half hour to an hour depending on what is involved and what is agreed upon by you and your therapist.

At VersaKinetic Therapy we pride ourselves on getting our patients back to the activities they love much faster than expected and that usually means we have them performing these activities throughout their care. After all, we can’t say that you’re “fixed” until you can do the things you want without pain, right?

Ohio state allows for 'Direct Access' which means you can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist directly without a prescription (or referral).

Having quick or immediate access to Physical Therapy can often be the difference between your condition being acute or temporary and chronic. You do not need to wait a week or more to be seen by your primary care physician or orthopedic specialist prior to being seen in our office. We encourage you to call us immediately if you experience an injury or have pain.

Massage Therapy

Your massage therapist may require you to fill out a health history form. Afterward the therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed, and to determine if massage is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition and to see if you have any presenting complaints.

It is important to list all health concerns and medications so the therapist can adapt the session to your specific needs without doing any harm. It is also important to list any allergies so the therapist is aware if he/she needs to use a different oil or lotion during the session.

Yes, our office can provide medical massage. You will need to bring in the order/prescription from your physician that states the diagnosis of your condition and the frequency you should be getting medical massages. With this being said, you are able to pay with your HSA or FSA debit card for a medical massage at VersaKinetic Therapy.

You should undress to the level you are comfortable. If you will be more comfortable during the session if you leave your underwear on, that's fine. The therapist will work around the clothes you left on as best as he/she can. If removing all your clothes makes you too nervous and unable to relax, then you are not getting the optimal benefit from the session. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress and get comfortable on the table.

Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she/he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It's up to you. It is your massage, and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time.

Massage therapy visits are either 60 minutes, 75 or 90 minutes depending on your preference. The average full-body massage treatment lasts approximately one hour. Many people prefer a 75 to 90-minute session for optimal relaxation.

This depends on the type of massage and the depth of the strokes. A therapeutic, deep tissue or sports performance/recovery massage may have a "feels good hurt." With that being said, there is a 'feels good' hurt and an 'ouch, stop it' hurt. A good massage, even a really deep tissue massage, should always stay in the 'feels good' hurt range. Pain can be an indication that the muscle is possibly injured or inflamed and pressure should be adjusted. Please provide feedback to your massage therapist as to whether there is too much pressure or not enough. The most effective and deepest massage always works with your body's natural response, not against it.

If you are having massage therapy, you will always work with the same therapist. The massage therapist will perform a whole body therapeutic massage unless otherwise specified by you, the client.

"Some is better than none." What does that mean? Well, it varies from person to person. If you are just looking for some occasional relaxation, then a session every 3-6 weeks may be fine for you. However, if you are looking to address a specific condition, then it is recommended to go more frequently at first and then slowly taper down to a maintenance schedule. Sometimes more frequent sessions can be effective until your goals are met and a maintenance schedule is in place.

Frequency of sessions should be discussed with your massage therapist after your treatment when he/she has a better hands-on understanding of your particular muscular issues.

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days. If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day - much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower, or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness. After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body's tissues hydrated and healthy.

Honestly, it's hard to say. Every person is unique and every condition is unique to each person. It may take one session or it may take several. You and your therapist will be able to talk more specifically about this after your first session and he/she has had a chance to evaluate your body's tissues.
